HELP & ADVICE
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I order made-to-measure shutters?
You can start by choosing your shutter style, material, colour and window size. Once your design is ready, submit your quote or order request and our team will guide you through the next steps.
Can I get a quote before placing an order?
Yes. You can request a shutter quote before ordering. We recommend checking your measurements carefully so the price is as accurate as possible.
Can I order free samples?
Yes. You can order samples to compare colours, finishes and materials at home before choosing your final shutters.
Do I need to measure my windows myself?
For supply-only orders, you will need to measure your windows using our measuring guide. Take your time, measure carefully and check each measurement before submitting your order.
What happens if I enter the wrong measurements?
Made-to-measure shutters are manufactured to the measurements you provide. Incorrect measurements can affect the fit, so please check everything carefully before confirming your order.
What shutter style is best for my room?
Full height shutters work well for clean, classic coverage. Café style shutters are ideal for privacy while keeping light at the top. Tier-on-tier shutters offer flexible top and bottom opening, while solid panel shutters are great for privacy and insulation.
Can shutters help with privacy?
Yes. Shutters are an excellent privacy solution because you can adjust the louvres, panels or sections to reduce visibility while still allowing natural light into the room.
Can shutters help block light?
Shutters can reduce light and improve room comfort, especially when fitted correctly. Solid panel shutters and shutters with larger coverage can offer stronger light control, but they are not a complete blackout product.
What materials are available?
British Shutters can offer shutter options such as faux wood and natural hardwood, depending on the style and range selected. Each material has different benefits for durability, weight, finish and room suitability.
Are shutters suitable for bathrooms or kitchens?
Moisture-prone rooms need suitable materials and careful installation. Faux wood options are often preferred for bathrooms, kitchens and utility areas because they are more practical around moisture than natural hardwood.
Can I install the shutters myself?
Yes, supply-only shutters can be installed by confident DIY customers using the installation guide. You should use the correct tools, check the frame is level and follow each step carefully.
Do you offer installation?
Installation may be available in selected areas. Availability can depend on your location, shutter type and order details.
How long does delivery take?
Delivery times vary by material, range and order type. Express and standard UK-made options may be faster, while natural hardwood and special orders may take longer. Your estimated timescale will be confirmed during the order process.
Do you deliver outside mainland UK?
Delivery may be available to selected non-mainland UK locations, but extra time and charges can apply. Please check before ordering if you are outside mainland UK.
When do I pay for my shutters?
Payment timing depends on the order process selected. If you choose a design-check callback, a secure payment link may be sent after your details have been reviewed.
Do shutters come with a warranty?
Eligible products are covered by the warranty terms shown on the website. The warranty is designed to cover qualifying manufacturing faults and does not replace your statutory rights.
Can I return made-to-measure shutters?
Made-to-measure shutters are manufactured specifically for your window measurements and specification, so they usually cannot be returned or cancelled once manufacturing has started unless they are faulty, damaged, incorrect or not as described.
How do I clean my shutters?
Dust regularly with a soft cloth or duster. For marks, use a slightly damp cloth and avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners or excessive moisture.
How do I keep my shutters working smoothly?
Open and close panels gently, keep tracks or hinges clear of debris and avoid forcing louvres or panels. If something feels misaligned, check the installation before applying pressure.
How can I contact British Shutters for help?
